2017 General Music Workshops
General Music for Special Learners with Michael Gray
Saturday, May 13th, 2017 from 10 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Greg Rogers Elementary School
This workshop is designed as both a presentation and a hands-on environment to explore different options to differentiate for students with special needs. We will cover ways to structure your lessons so that all students feel comfortable and secure, strategies for students with mild/moderate and moderate/severe special needs, specific ways to adapt activities for students with physical handicaps, and more. A generous amount of time will be devoted to answering your questions about your specific student issues and ideas for advocating for successful strategies with your administration. All students can learn, and I can help you find ways to help them!
Introduction to Kodaly with Tom Waczek
Saturday, March 11th, 2017 from 9-11:30 a.m. at Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary School
Who exactly was Zoltan Kodaly and what was his philosophy? How do you introduce his sequencing and pedagogy to students of all ages? What do you do with older beginners? Tom Waczek, who has all three levels of Kodayl training and is a general music teacher with the San Diego Unified School District, presents an introduction to the Kodaly concept and concrete ideas for your classroom. Expect to walk away with a repertoire of songs, games and dances to use in your classroom to develop a solid foundation for music literacy!
Sequential Elementary General Music Workshop with Debbie Burton and Margie Orem
Saturday, January 21st, 2017 - 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Jerabek Elementary School
Your principal is asking for a scope and sequence. You take a look at the state and national standards, but they're open ended and general. There are a thousand ways you could teach these standards...so what do you do? Debbie Burton and Margie Orem have answers for you.
This free workshop is a hands-on, group participation activity. During this workshop, participants will experience a way to plan fun lessons that incorporate sequential, rhythmic, melodic and musical elements through games, songs, movement and listening. Wear comfortable clothes and get ready to have fun!
